Another devastating communal clash has erupted in Jigawa State, leaving no fewer than 10 people dead and several others injured in Gidan Nagari Community, Jahun Local Government Area.
The attack, which occurred late Thursday night, has drawn parallels to a similar incident that claimed nine lives in Gululu village just a week prior.
Eyewitnesses recount a night of terror as gunfire, screams, and raging flames engulfed the village, forcing residents to flee for their lives.
Medical personnel at Jahun General Hospital confirmed that 10 victims, including nine men and one woman, lost their lives in the attack, with some bodies burnt beyond recognition.
Residents, such as Bala Dan Garba, have called for calm and unity amidst the chaos, urging the government to act swiftly to prevent further violence.
“We must work together to restore peace and protect our communities,” Dan Garba said, as burials for the victims began amidst widespread grief.
The police have launched an investigation into the incident, with Jigawa Police Command spokesperson Superintendent Shi’isu Lawan confirming the deployment of officers to the scene.
While preliminary reports point to yet-to-be-identified armed men as the perpetrators, authorities are working to assess the extent of the damage and apprehend those responsible.
“Our men are on the ground to restore order, and further updates will be provided as investigations unfold,” Lawan assured.
Despite the escalating violence, the Jigawa State government has yet to issue an official statement addressing the tragedy, a silence that has drawn criticism from residents and observers.
Malam Muhammad Kani, a community elder, called on the government to address the root causes of the conflict and ensure justice for the victims.
The situation remains tense, with fears of further clashes unless immediate and decisive action is taken.
