An Enugu High Court has issued a restraining order against Senator Samuel Anyanwu, barring him from parading himself as the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The ruling, delivered by Justice C.O. Ajah, warned that failure to comply with the order would result in contempt charges, punishable by imprisonment.
The judgment stemmed from a lawsuit filed by Emmanuel Aniagu, naming the PDP, its Acting National Chairman, Iliya Umar Damagun, Senator Anyanwu, and PDP National Vice Chairman (Southeast), Ali Odefa, as defendants.
The court stated that Anyanwu’s dual roles as National Secretary and gubernatorial candidate for the upcoming Imo State election created a conflict of interest.
Justice Ajah noted that by assuming both positions, Anyanwu undermined his impartiality in party decisions, effectively “making himself a judge in his own cause.” Consequently, the court declared that he had forfeited his position as National Secretary through his actions.
The court further directed the PDP leadership to recognize Hon. S.K.E. Udeh Okoye, recommended by the party’s Southeast Zonal Executive Committee, as the legitimate National Secretary to serve out the remaining tenure of the office.
