Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has extended his condolences to Fuji music icon Wasiu Ayinde Anifowoshe, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, following the loss of his mother and ex-wife within days of each other.
K1’s mother, Alhaja Halimot Anifowoshe, passed away at the remarkable age of 105, shortly after his ex-wife, Alhaja Hafsat Anifowoshe, succumbed to an undisclosed illness at 65.
In a statement issued on Sunday, January 19, 2025, Obi described the double loss as “tragic” and expressed his heartfelt sympathies.
“On behalf of my family, I sincerely sympathize with the popular Fuji maestro, Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, known as K1 De Ultimate, who recently suffered a double bereavement. The reported deaths of his ex-wife, Alhaja Hafsat Ajoke Anifowoshe, and his mother, Alhaja Halima Shadiya Anifowoshe, within a few days, are indeed tragic,” Obi said.
He added, “I commiserate with him and his entire family during this challenging period of mourning. May Almighty Allah grant them the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss, forgive the sins of the departed, and grant them eternal rest.”
This message follows a similar gesture from President Bola Tinubu, who reached out to K1 via a phone call to offer his condolences. Sharing a video of the conversation on Instagram, the Fuji legend wrote, “The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria called to commiserate with the King of Fuji Music.”
K1’s fans and admirers continue to pour in messages of support for the grieving musician during this difficult time.
