Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North in the National Assembly, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The announcement was made by his media aide, Ms. Gloria Okolugbo, who attributed the decision to frustrations with the PDP leadership in Delta State.
According to Okolugbo, Senator Nwoko faced challenges in securing the cooperation and support needed to fulfil his campaign promises. “He came prepared to deliver good governance to Anioma people, but unfortunately, the PDP did not provide the necessary backing, even as its sole senator in Delta State,” she stated.
Nwoko recently held a consultative meeting with his constituents to inform them of his decision to switch parties. His defection means all three Delta State senators now belong to the APC, a shift that may weaken the PDP’s influence in the state.
Okolugbo noted that factionalisation within the PDP contributed to Nwoko’s decision, stressing the importance of a balanced, transparent, and accountable democratic system.
The senator’s defection underscores growing challenges within the Delta PDP and signals potential shifts in the state’s political dynamics as the APC strengthens its hold.
