The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has announced that the Ekiti Agro-Allied Cargo International Airport is 99.5% ready to commence full commercial operations.
Keyamo disclosed this during a joint inspection of the facility with Governor Biodun Oyebanji in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday. He highlighted that the airport has met essential requirements, including aviation security, fire services, and navigational aids, adding that non-scheduled flights can begin immediately.
“The Ekiti Agro-Allied Airport is 99.5% ready for full commercial operations,” Keyamo stated. “There’s a fire station, navigational aid already installed at the tower, and security operatives are in place. The runway is of international standard, accommodating various types of aircraft.”
The minister commended Governor Oyebanji’s commitment to the project, describing it as a testament to his dedication to economic development in the state.
“What remains is for regulatory agencies to finalize approvals. However, we’ve already permitted non-scheduled flights to operate here. The landing of an aircraft yesterday demonstrates the safety and readiness of this facility,” Keyamo added.
Governor Oyebanji lauded the federal government’s support and pledged that the airport would be a hub for agro-allied activities, boosting economic growth and connecting Ekiti State to global markets.
The airport’s readiness marks a significant milestone in Ekiti’s development, promising improved connectivity and economic opportunities.
