Special Mining Marshals, “Pillars of National Development_, Says Obadiah Nkom

The Special Mining Marshals have been recognized as vital contributors to Nigeria’s national development for their unwavering commitment to tackling illegal mining activities across the country. The Director-General of the Nigeria Mining Cadastre Office, Engr. Obadiah Nkom, praised their bravery and resilience in the face of significant challenges, including financial inducements, personal threats, and intense pressure.

Speaking during a recent engagement, Nkom lauded the marshals for their integrity and dedication, emphasizing that their efforts have been pivotal to the agency’s achievements. He acknowledged their sacrifices as the backbone of the ongoing fight against illegal mining, a scourge that undermines Nigeria’s economic potential and environmental sustainability.

In alignment with efforts to bolster the mining sector, the Commander of the Special Mining Marshals, John Onoja Attah, met with the Mining Cadastre Office to unveil the marshals’ 2025 Strategic Operational Plans. The initiative is designed to enhance field operations, improve regulatory compliance, and foster closer collaboration with the Cadastre Office to combat illegal mining effectively.

During the meeting, Obadiah Nkom reiterated the agency’s commitment to supporting the marshals, announcing the automation of the office’s services. The upgrade will streamline license verification processes, improve service delivery, and enhance transparency, further strengthening the mining sector’s regulatory framework.

John Onoja Attah, in his remarks, affirmed the marshals’ resolve to intensify their crackdown on illegal mining operations in 2025. He emphasized that their mission is to ensure legitimate mineral titleholders can access their resources without interference. The collaboration with the Mining Cadastre Office, he stated, represents a significant step in addressing environmental and community challenges associated with unauthorized mining activities.

Nkom highlighted Nigeria’s vast mineral wealth and stressed the importance of partnerships to foster economic growth, attract investments, and drive innovation. He expressed confidence that with the marshals’ renewed vigor and strategic planning, the country can strengthen its position as a global leader in minerals and energy development.

These collaborative efforts underscore the government’s commitment to sustainable mining practices, the protection of Nigeria’s mineral resources, and the broader goal of national economic transformation.
