Ejiofor’s Resilience in the Face of Threats Lauded by Ozekhome

Renowned Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Professor Mike Ozekhome, has praised Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor for his unwavering commitment to justice and human rights advocacy, despite threats to his life. Ozekhome, who serves as lead counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), made this commendation in a statement celebrating Ejiofor’s 50th birthday.

In the statement, Ozekhome highlighted Ejiofor’s steadfast dedication to upholding the rule of law, particularly in his role as a key member of the legal team defending Kanu. He noted that Ejiofor’s legal acumen and tenacity have brought significant victories in various courts, even under challenging circumstances.

“You demonstrated extraordinary courage in your advocacy for the rights and freedoms of our client,” Ozekhome remarked. “Notwithstanding threats to your life and property, you remained resolute in your pursuit of justice and human rights.”

Ozekhome emphasized that Ejiofor’s work has been an inspiration to many, showcasing the importance of social justice, fair representation, and adherence to democratic principles.

“Your journey in the legal battle is a testament to your deep conviction that every individual is entitled to justice and fair representation, regardless of the adversities they face,” he said.

The SAN praised Ejiofor’s resilience, compassion, and strong ethical standards, which have not only drawn global attention to the plight of his client but also underscored the need for a fair judicial system in Nigeria.

As Ejiofor celebrates his 50th birthday, Ozekhome extended his best wishes, saying: “May you find renewed strength and inspiration to continue your noble endeavors. On behalf of all who admire your courage and dedication, I wish you a happy and memorable 50th birthday. May the years ahead be as impactful and inspiring as those behind you.”

Ejiofor’s work alongside Ozekhome in the legal defense of Kanu has been marked by significant challenges, but his persistence has reinforced the importance of respecting citizens’ rights and ensuring justice in a democratic society.
