Major General Godwin Mutkut has officially taken the reins as the new Force Commander of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), succeeding Major General Ibrahim Sallau Ali.
The handover ceremony, which took place at the MNJTF Headquarters in Farcha, N’Djamena, Chad, marked the beginning of a new chapter in the fight against terrorism and insecurity in the Lake Chad Basin region
In his inaugural address, Major General Mutkut expressed his gratitude to the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) and the contributing member states for entrusting him with this critical role.
He pledged to build on the successes of his predecessors and continue advancing the MNJTF’s mission of promoting peace and stability in the region.
“I am honoured to take on this responsibility and committed to working closely with all stakeholders to consolidate our gains and address the evolving security challenges in the Lake Chad Basin,” Major General Mutkut stated.
Outgoing Force Commander, Major General Ibrahim Sallau Ali, congratulated his successor and expressed confidence in his ability to lead the MNJTF to greater heights.
He noted that Major General Mutkut’s extensive operational experience, including his time as Commander of Sector 3 MNJTF and General Officer Commanding 8 Division Nigerian Army, makes him an ideal candidate for the role.
Major General Mutkut is a seasoned and distinguished senior Nigerian Army officer, renowned for his exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment to duty.
His appointment underscores the commitment of member states towards ensuring capable leadership in addressing the complex security dynamics within the Lake Chad region.
