The Lagos State Government has announced the immediate closure of the pedestrian bridge connecting Oshodi Bus Terminals 2 and 3 due to concerns about its structural integrity.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, stated that the decision was taken to ensure public safety.
“The closure is necessary to protect the lives of pedestrians using the bridge. We have also directed the contractor responsible for the initial construction to install concrete barriers at the entrances of the bridge,” Osiyemi explained.
He added that the closure will allow a thorough structural integrity assessment to determine whether the bridge requires repairs or reconstruction.
As a temporary measure, pedestrians have been advised to use an alternative pedestrian bridge located approximately 30 meters away.
The Lagos State Government assured the public of its commitment to infrastructure safety and pledged to provide updates following the completion of the bridge’s assessment.
