Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is set to unveil 10 new ferries as part of ongoing efforts to improve the state’s transportation infrastructure and enhance socioeconomic development.
The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotosho, made this announcement on Friday during the Joint Citizens Media Engagement Forum in Lagos.
With the addition of these ferries, the total number introduced under Sanwo-Olu’s administration will rise to 25, underscoring the state government’s commitment to improving water transportation.
A Symbol of Innovation
Omotosho highlighted the high quality of the ferries, emphasizing their global standards and local craftsmanship.
“These ferries are very good compared to any you can find anywhere in the world,” he said. “They were built by our young engineers, showcasing what is possible in Nigeria. They represent more than a means of transportation—they are a symbol of innovation and progress.”
Transforming Lagos Transportation
The unveiling aligns with the governor’s broader strategy to decongest Lagos roads and provide residents with efficient, safe, and reliable alternatives for commuting. By expanding the ferry network, the administration aims to enhance mobility and stimulate economic activities across the state.
The unveiling event is expected to draw stakeholders and residents alike, as the state continues to prioritize sustainable transportation solutions.
