The Lagos State House of Assembly has cautioned former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa against actions that could destabilize the legislative arm following his impeachment on January 13.
In a statement signed by Ogundipe Olukayode, the assembly reaffirmed its decision to remove Obasa and declared its full support for the new Speaker, Mojisola Meranda. The lawmakers emphasized that the impeachment adhered to constitutional processes and was backed by over two-thirds of the members.
“We are united behind Rt. Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda and stand firmly by our decision to impeach Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa,” the statement read.
The assembly accused Obasa of attempting to undermine their unity and warned that any attempt to escalate tensions would be resisted.
Olukayode urged the former Speaker to prioritize peace, stating, “Obasa’s actions are uncalled for. Heating the polity will not benefit anyone and will be firmly opposed by the majority of members who support the new leadership.”
Obasa, representing Agege Constituency I, had served as a member of the assembly since 2007 and as Speaker since 2015 until his recent removal.
