A tragic incident occurred in Lagos on Tuesday afternoon when a two-storey building under construction collapsed in the Ikota area of Lekki, leaving one person dead and several others trapped beneath the rubble. The building, still in the construction phase, gave way around 4 p.m., prompting immediate action from emergency response teams.
According to reports, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) are currently at the scene, working tirelessly to rescue victims. As of the latest updates, four individuals have been successfully rescued from the debris, though they sustained varying degrees of injuries and have been rushed to the hospital for treatment.
LASEMA officials confirmed that rescue operations are still ongoing, with efforts focused on reaching additional victims who may still be trapped. While the exact cause of the collapse remains unclear, emergency teams were swiftly deployed to the site after a distress call was made, under the leadership of NSCDC State Commandant, Mr. Adedotun Keshinro.
“The rescue operation is progressing, and we’ve been able to pull out four people alive so far,” Keshinro said. “We continue our search for others who might still be trapped.”
This incident has added to the growing concerns over building safety in Lagos, with authorities now investigating the cause of the collapse.
