A deadly explosion in Sabo, Owode, located in Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State, has claimed the lives of four individuals, with several others injured.
The incident occurred on Monday night when a scavenger, identified as ‘bolar bolar,’ accidentally triggered the blast while dismantling a metal object. The force of the explosion left immediate casualties, with four people confirmed dead at the scene.
Many others sustained injuries of varying severity and were swiftly transported to the General Hospital in Ilaro for medical treatment. Emergency responders and local authorities arrived promptly to manage the aftermath of the explosion.
The cause of the blast remains under investigation, as officials look into the nature of the metal object involved.
In a response to the incident, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, disputed initial reports but did not offer further details at the time.
