NDF Accuses Dogara, Truggar of Betraying Northern Interest

The Nigerian Democratic Front (NDF) has issued a strong warning to former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, over what it described as their betrayal of the North’s political interests ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The group alleged that the duo’s recent criticism of Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed is a deliberate attempt to weaken the North’s political influence and prevent the emergence of a viable presidential candidate from the region.

In a statement signed by its National Spokesperson, Engr. Ikenna Ellis Ezenekwe, the NDF urged Northerners to reject what it called “political mercenaries” working against regional unity.

“These are not men fighting for justice or accountability,” the statement read. “Governor Mohammed may not be perfect—no politician is—but he has shown courage by aligning with the people rather than with corrupt political elites. His opposition to maladministration and willingness to confront injustice have made him a target for political opportunists.”

The group accused Dogara and Tuggar of siding with forces determined to marginalize the North rather than supporting leaders advocating for regional development.

“The era of political mercenaries masquerading as patriots must come to an end,” NDF stated, calling for the rejection of tactics that undermine the region’s political future.

The warning comes amid growing tensions within the Northern political space, with stakeholders positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 elections. Governor Bala Mohammed, seen by some as a potential presidential contender, has faced increasing scrutiny, which the NDF believes is part of a larger plot to weaken his chances.

While neither Dogara nor Tuggar has publicly responded to the allegations, political observers note that the battle for Northern political dominance is likely to intensify as the 2027 race draws closer.
