Police in Nasarawa State have arrested a student of the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, for allegedly killing a fellow student during a violent altercation.
The state’s police spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the incident in a statement, saying the arrest followed a complaint from a resident, Madam Mercy-Bassey, who reported a fight between two of her tenants.
Detectives dispatched to the scene found the victim, Ibrahim Matthew, a part-time National Diploma (ND2) Computer Science student, lying in a pool of blood. He was rushed to the General Hospital in Nasarawa town but was pronounced dead due to the severity of his injuries.
The suspect, John Gambo, an ND2 Banking and Finance student, was quickly apprehended. According to the police, he confessed to attacking the victim with an axe and a knife.
The Commissioner of Police, Shettima Jauro Mohammed, has ordered the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia for further investigation and prosecution.
Authorities have urged students and residents to remain calm as the investigation continues.
