The United States has announced an investigation into how aid given to Nigeria and other countries has been used.
This follows President Donald Trump’s decision on January 20, 2025, to halt all foreign aid for 90 days over concerns about global instability and its alignment with American interests.
The U.S. Mission to Nigeria confirmed efforts to track past financial assistance, stating that monitoring systems are in place to ensure funds reach the right recipients.
Additionally, the U.S. government condemned the ongoing violence by Boko Haram, stressing that the group has caused loss of life and suffering in Nigeria and the surrounding region.
Boko Haram was designated a Foreign Terrorist Organization on November 14, 2013, restricting its financial activities and barring its members from entering the U.S.
The U.S. reaffirmed its commitment to working with Nigeria and regional partners to fight terrorism and strengthen security in West Africa.
