A 37-year-old Nigerian woman, Margret Ene Mgbudom, has been arraigned in a Chief Judicial Magistrate court in Navsari, India, for drug trafficking.
She was arrested by Gujarat’s State Monitoring Cell (SMC) after being found with 149.51 grams of imported cocaine.
The arrest happened following a tip-off, leading the police to stop and search her car during a highway surveillance operation.
Investigations revealed that the drugs belonged to a person named “Elder” in Nigeria. Mgbudom admitted receiving the cocaine from an individual called Emmanuel in Mumbai, intending to deliver it to someone in Surat.
Authorities suspect the existence of an international drug cartel linked to Nigeria. Scrutiny of her passport showed she had traveled multiple times between Mumbai and Surat for similar deliveries in recent years.
Police have vowed to track down other members of the cartel operating in India.
