At least 180 Nigerians who had been stranded in Libya arrived at Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos on Wednesday.
Their return was arranged by the Nigerian embassy in Tripoli and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
The group consisted of 76 men, 92 women, eight children, and four infants.
Upon arrival, they were welcomed and transported to a temporary shelter provided by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), where they will stay before moving to their final destinations.
Representatives from the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) and IOM were present to assist with the return process.
The Edo State Migration Agency also joined the reception to help transport the returnees from Edo state back home free of charge.
NCFRMI officials and Nigerian Immigration Service personnel interviewed the returnees, while other agencies, such as Port Health and the Federal Ministry of Labour, offered additional support.
The government plans to integrate the returnees into various programmes under the “Renewed Hope Agenda,” as part of their reintegration process.
