The United States on Thursday deported 135 migrants, including 65 children, to Costa Rica.
The group, made up of people from various countries, arrived on a flight from San Diego, California, landing near Juan Santamaria International Airport.
From there, they were taken by bus to a migrant facility about 360 kilometers away, close to Panama’s border.
According to Costa Rica’s deputy interior minister, all the minors were accompanied by a relative, and none of the deported individuals had a criminal record.
The migrants came from Afghanistan, China, Iran, Russia, Armenia, Georgia, Vietnam, Jordan, Kazakhstan, and Ghana. Costa Rica, along with Panama and Guatemala, has an agreement with the US to temporarily host deported migrants before they are sent to their home countries or other destinations.
Last week, Panama received 299 deported migrants, with about 100 of them moved to a refugee camp in Meteti, in the Darien jungle region.
