Nigerian footballer Abubakar Lawal has died following a road accident in Uganda.
The 29-year-old forward, who played for Vipers Sports Club, was involved in a motorcycle crash on Entebbe Road in Kampala while heading to a club training session.
Lawal joined Vipers SC in 2022 from Rwanda’s AS Kigali and was instrumental in their 2022/23 league-winning campaign. This season, he had made eight league appearances. Before moving to East Africa, he had a successful career in Nigeria, representing Kano Pillars, Wikki Tourists, and Nasarawa United.
Vipers SC confirmed his passing in an official statement, expressing their deep sorrow and promising to share funeral arrangements soon. Fans, teammates, and the football community have been paying tribute to Lawal, remembering his dedication to the sport.
His death marks a great loss for Vipers SC and the wider football world.
