The creators of No Other Land, a documentary about Palestinian activists resisting displacement in the West Bank, used their Oscars moment to highlight the ongoing conflict in the region.
The film won Best Documentary Feature at the ceremony on March 2, and the filmmakers took the stage to deliver a message about inequality.
Israeli journalist Yuval Abraham pointed out the stark differences in legal systems affecting Palestinians and Israelis. He shared that while he lives freely under civilian law, his co-director, Palestinian journalist Basel Adra, faces a different reality under Israeli legislation.
“When I look at Basel, I see my brother, but we are unequal,” Abraham stated, drawing attention to the disparities.
Their speech resonated with the audience, bringing the realities of the West Bank to one of the world’s biggest stages. No Other Land sheds light on Palestinian efforts to protect their homes from demolition by Israeli forces, making the filmmakers’ message even more urgent.
