Starting Wednesday, travelers heading to the UK can apply for a new electronic travel authorization (ETA), which will become mandatory from April 2.
After this date, a passport alone will no longer be enough to enter the country.
The ETA is not a visa but a digital security check required for travelers arriving in the UK without a visa. The system aims to enhance border security and prevent immigration misuse, similar to systems used in the U.S. and Australia.
The application fee is €10 ($12.80) but will increase to €16 in the coming months.
The approval process includes security screenings, such as criminal record checks.
An approved ETA allows multiple entries for stays of up to six months within two years, as long as the passport remains valid.
Travelers can apply using the Home Office mobile app or the official website.
Applicants must:
Provide their address and workplace details
Upload a passport photo
Submit a facial photo (required for those aged nine and above)
For those without a compatible smartphone, applications can be completed on a computer.
This new requirement strengthens UK border security while simplifying entry for eligible travelers.
