Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa took a major step toward political reform by signing a declaration that sets the foundation for Syria’s interim constitution.
The signing ceremony took place at the People’s Palace in Damascus on March 13, 2025.
Qatar responded positively to this development, expressing hope that the move would pave the way for a smooth transition and help build a fair and democratic state that reflects the will of the Syrian people.
The declaration focuses on key elements such as the separation of powers, the formation of a committee to draft a permanent constitution, guarantees for transitional justice, and the protection of freedoms and rights for all citizens. It also emphasizes preserving Syria’s unity and sovereignty.
In a written statement, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry expressed full support for Syria’s territorial integrity and the aspirations of its people for freedom, progress, and prosperity. The ministry also stressed the need for cooperation at local, regional, and international levels to ensure lasting stability.
This declaration is seen as a crucial step toward rebuilding Syria after years of conflict and laying the groundwork for a democratic future.
