A man has been jailed for 34 years for the brutal murder of his housemate, whom he cut up into 27 pieces.
The victim, who had been living with the defendant, was found dead in their shared home, with police discovering the gruesome remains.
“This was a particularly horrific and disturbing crime, and the defendant’s actions showed a complete disregard for human life,” said the judge during sentencing.
The defendant, who had pleaded guilty to the crime, showed no emotion as the sentence was handed down.
“I want to acknowledge the bravery and dignity of the victim’s family, who have had to endure unimaginable pain and suffering,” said the prosecutor. “The defendant’s actions have caused irreparable harm, and this sentence reflects the severity of the crime.”
The police investigation into the murder was extensive, with officers working tirelessly to gather evidence and bring the perpetrator to justice.
“This was a complex and challenging case, but our team worked diligently to ensure that justice was served,” said the lead detective. “I hope that this sentence brings some measure of closure to the victim’s family and loved ones.”
The defendant will serve a minimum of 34 years in prison before being eligible for parole.
