Nigeria is set to advance its space industry with a new funding boost.
The government has approved N20 billion for the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) to support the regulation and licensing of space activities.
The approval was granted to help NASRDA oversee the country’s growing space sector. With increasing interest in satellite technology and space exploration, officials see the funding as a step toward strengthening Nigeria’s position in the global space industry.
President Bola Tinubu endorsed the financial support to enable NASRDA to carry out its mandate effectively. The agency is responsible for developing policies, ensuring compliance with international space laws, and managing satellite operations in the country.
Nigeria has been expanding its space program over the years, launching satellites for communication, environmental monitoring, and security. The new funding will assist in establishing a more structured framework for private and government-led space projects.
With this investment, Nigeria aims to create better regulations, attract investors, and develop homegrown technology for space exploration. The move is expected to open new opportunities for scientific research, innovation, and economic growth in the sector.
