UK passport prices to rise soon travellers urged to act fast

UK passport holders are being urged to act quickly as a sharp increase in passport application fees is set to take effect in just a few days.

Those planning to travel or renew their passports soon are being warned that delaying their application could result in paying much more than they would today.

The new pricing changes are scheduled to kick in four days from now. After this point, both new and renewal applications will come with higher costs. Adults and children will be affected, with online and postal applications both seeing increases. The Home Office confirmed the upcoming rise earlier this month, saying the changes are necessary to support ongoing operational costs and improvements to the service.

This decision is expected to impact thousands of British citizens, especially as summer travel plans start to ramp up. People looking to renew their passports or apply for the first time now face the challenge of either acting fast or paying the higher rate later. Travel agencies and experts are advising customers not to delay, as waiting could not only cost more but might also result in processing delays due to increased demand.

The rise in fees applies to both standard and expedited services. It will affect applications made within the UK as well as those from British citizens applying from abroad. Government officials say the revenue will go toward improving digital systems, enhancing customer service, and maintaining secure border checks.

The news has caused a wave of concern on social media, with many people calling the increase too steep. Families with multiple members applying at once are especially feeling the pinch, as the total cost can rise quickly. Some applicants are now scrambling to meet the deadline, fearing they might miss the window for the lower prices.

Those looking to avoid the higher fees are advised to complete and submit their applications as soon as possible. The official government website is still accepting online applications at the current rate, but the window is closing fast. With just days left, the rush is on for many travellers hoping to save money ahead of the price change.
