Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has assured Syria’s acting President Ahmad Al-Sharaa that Turkiye will persist in its efforts to lift international sanctions imposed on Syria.

The announcement came during their meeting at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum on Friday, according to Anadolu Agency.

Erdogan emphasized that Turkiye welcomes the current relative calm in Syria and sees no room for those seeking to reignite chaos. He expressed optimism, stating that the future years will be ones of “stability, prosperity, and peace” for the war-torn country.

Highlighting the importance of deepening economic ties, Erdogan also discussed boosting commercial and economic cooperation between Turkiye and Syria, while suggesting that further cooperation in other areas may be explored.

The Turkish leader reaffirmed his country’s continued backing of Syria’s stabilisation efforts, in line with previous support provided throughout the conflict.

The Antalya Diplomacy Forum, a three-day event that began on Friday, is themed “Reclaiming Diplomacy in a Fragmented World” and brings together global leaders and experts to explore diplomatic solutions to major global crises, including conflicts, inequality, and climate challenges.
