The 2025 Met Gala is set to celebrate Black fashion and menswear like never before, with British racing star Lewis Hamilton stepping into the spotlight as a co-chair.
The annual fashion spectacle will take place on Monday, May 5, in New York City, bringing together some of the world’s biggest celebrities to support the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute.
This year’s gala theme is shaped around the new exhibition titled Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. The showcase dives deep into the evolution of Black fashion through the lens of dandyism, tracing its influence from the 18th century to the present. The inspiration behind the theme stems from the 2009 book Slaves to Fashion by Monica L. Miller, which explores how style has been used by Black individuals to express identity, creativity, and resistance.
The dress code, Tailored for You, invites attendees to embrace custom suiting and structured elegance—an homage to menswear, which will be at the heart of this year’s event for the first time in over 20 years. Guests are expected to make powerful style statements that reflect both history and individuality, with many likely to honor the deep cultural roots of Black fashion in their outfits.
Joining Hamilton as co-chairs are music producer Pharrell Williams, actor Colman Domingo, rapper A$AP Rocky, and basketball legend LeBron James. The host committee is equally star-studded, featuring prominent Black voices across entertainment, including actress Ayo Edebiri, director Spike Lee, pop stars Tyla and Doechii, author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, and gymnast Simone Biles. This year’s lineup signals a strong focus on Black excellence and creativity.
As usual, Vogue’s editor-in-chief Anna Wintour will be at the helm, continuing her long tradition of overseeing the gala since 1995. Although the guest list remains a closely guarded secret, it is expected to include Hollywood stars, supermodels, musicians, and designers, all making a grand entrance on the museum’s iconic staircase.
Viewers around the world can tune in to the glamorous red carpet moments through Vogue’s live streams on YouTube and other platforms. US audiences can also watch on Peacock and E! Online, while social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok will be buzzing with real-time coverage.
While the event itself is closed to the public, the fashion statements, cultural nods, and bold creativity on display each year make the Met Gala a global conversation starter—and this year’s focus on Black style and menswear is poised to make a lasting impression.
