The Kenyan government has condemned an incident where a shoe was thrown at President William Ruto during a meeting with traders in Nairobi. The incident occurred when a trader hurled a shoe at Ruto after he was heckled.
“The act of throwing a shoe at the President is unacceptable and condemnable,” said government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura. “It is an attack on the office of the President and the dignity of the state.”
The trader, who was swiftly escorted away by security personnel, was reportedly protesting over unpaid compensation for a demolished market. Ruto has promised to look into the matter and ensure the trader receives compensation.
“We will investigate the matter and ensure that justice is served,” Ruto said. The government has urged Kenyans to engage in constructive dialogue rather than resorting to violence.
