In a firm response to the recent statements by the so-called Conference of Professionals in the PDP (CP-PDP) calling for the expulsion of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, concerned stakeholders within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have issued a stern warning against the growing trend of selective discipline and politically motivated purges.
The publicity Secretary of Concern PDP League Rivers State Chapter, Tamunotonye Warmate, in statement emphasized that the PDP must uphold fairness, justice and consistency in enforcing its rules.
He declared that if Chief Nyesom Wike is to be expelled for alleged anti-party activities at all, then almost all high-ranking figures including Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Sen. Wabara, Prince Secondus, Governor Seyi Makinde, and Governor Bala Mohammed, all PDP Governors and some NWC, BoT, Caucus and NEC members must equally face the same disciplinary scrutiny.
According to him “It is both unjust and hypocritical to target Chief Wike in isolation,”
The group publicity secretary stated that “Atiku Abubakar’s conduct following the 2022 presidential election primaries did irreparable damage to party cohesion while governor Seyi Makinde open endorsement of APC presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Bala Mohammed double faced alliances during the 2023 elections and his controversial dealings with APC leaders, and Senator Wabara open sell of PDP to abia state governor, Prince Secondus, Abiye sekibo, Austin Opara, Sen. Maeba, governor Fubara open support for president Tinubu and PDP governors nomination of board members to a president produced by APC led federal government and their behind the scenes collaboration with opposition figures are all anti party activities that deserve punishment.
He warned that any attempts to use the upcoming May 27 National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting to pursue factional agendas would only deepen internal divisions and alienate party loyalists.
“This party belongs to all its members, not to a selected few. The NEC must not be turned into an arena for vendettas and political score-settling. Any disciplinary action must be grounded in equity, transparency, and due process.”He said.
He concluded by commending the acting National Chairman, Ambassador Damagum and the national secretary, Senator Anyanwu for their leadership dexterity and urge them and other party leaders to prioritize reconciliation, collective reform, and strategic unity as the PDP positions itself for a stronger national resurgence ahead of 2027.
