Children’s Day: TWDO, Partners Feed, Gift Over 300 Children in Underserved Abuja Community

In commemoration of this year’s Children’s Day celebration, Tomorrow’s Women Development Organisation (TWDO), in collaboration with Thelema Lions Multipurpose Cooperative Society and Divine Gold Multipurpose Cooperative Society, reached out to over 300 children in Zyinda community, Abuja, with food, gifts, and words of encouragement.

The initiative, which held in the heart of Zyinda community within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), was designed to mark the annual event with impactful social service. Speaking during the outreach, the Founder of TWDO, Hon. Chinyere Ezenwokike, highlighted the rationale behind the choice of location.

“I considered Zyinda community because they remain socially underdeveloped. There is no electricity, no access to good roads, no hospital, no market, and no pipe-borne water. They depend entirely on neighbouring communities for these basic amenities,” she stated.

Despite the challenges, she noted the community’s peaceful disposition and their strong agricultural and business engagement. Hon. Ezenwokike used the occasion to commend the community leadership and further appealed to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, His Excellency Nyesom Wike, to extend infrastructural development to Zyinda.

She encouraged the children to adopt sound moral behaviour, stressing that good character would shape them into responsible future leaders.

Lady Ify Agu, Executive Director of Thelema Lions Foundation and Cooperative, applauded Hon. Ezenwokike’s leadership and reaffirmed the importance of instilling good values in children at an early age.

“Education and proper conduct are essential pillars of growth. I urge all the children here to remain committed to learning and moral uprightness. It is the foundation for becoming valuable citizens,” she said.

In a heartwarming gesture, Lady Ify also offered a scholarship to an indigent child in the Zyinda community, further demonstrating her commitment to supporting the education and future of underserved children.

Also present at the event was Dr. Lizzy Ejiogu, a development expert, who expressed satisfaction with the impact of the programme. She praised the organisers and encouraged them to sustain the initiative. She further advised women and children in the community to take full advantage of the lessons and skills being shared during such empowerment programmes.

The outreach event not only marked a memorable Children’s Day for Zyinda community but also brought attention to the urgent need for social infrastructure in one of Abuja’s most overlooked rural settlements.
