Members of the Cross River State All Progressives Congress (APC) Caucus in the 10th National Assembly have unanimously endorsed President Bola Tinubu and Governor Bassey Otu for a second term in office, citing their “outstanding and unprecedented performances” since assuming office two years ago.
Addressing journalists in Calabar, Senator Eteng Jones, leader of the caucus and the Senator representing Cross River Central Senatorial District, stated that the decision was based on the “pragmatic and visionary leadership exhibited by President Bola Tinubu and Governor Bassey Otu, which has repositioned the country and state on the path of progress and stable development.”
Senator Jones highlighted the ongoing construction of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as a “bold initiative aimed at accelerating economic activities in Calabar and the entire state at large.”
He also commended President Tinubu’s commitment to completing the Calabar-Itu Highway, calling it a reflection of the President’s “passion and peculiar interest in our dear state.”
“This endorsement is therefore a collective expression of our appreciation to Mr. President for his peculiar interest in our state, knowing too well that if he could do this much within two years, we stand a better chance to benefit from him in terms of more projects once he returns to the saddle for a second term,”
Senator Jones added.
Regarding Governor Bassey Otu, Senator Jones expressed the caucus’s overwhelming satisfaction with his achievements in just two years. He praised the governor for completing numerous abandoned projects, rehabilitating road networks across the state, lifting the ban on employment, and awarding contracts for various rural road networks.
Also speaking, Rt. Hon. Bassey Akiba of the Calabar Municipality/Odukpani Federal Constituency, emphasized that the endorsement was crucial to keep President Bola Tinubu and Governor Bassey Otu focused on governance, asserting that their second terms were “already a done deal.”
Other members of the Caucus present at the media parley included Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong Jr. (Cross River Southern Senatorial District), Rt. Hon. Joseph Bassey (Akpabuyo/Bakassi/Calabar South Federal Constituency), Mike Ettaba (Etung/Obubra Federal Constituency), Alex Egbonna (Yakurr/Abi Federal Constituency), Emil Inyang (Akamkpa/Biase Federal Constituency), Victor Abang (Ikom/Boki Federal Constituency), and Peter Akpanke (Obudu/Bekwarra/Obanlikwu Federal Constituency).
