Liverpool have completed the signing of Dutch international Jeremie Frimpong from Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen.
The 24-year-old finalized his transfer on Friday after passing a medical and putting pen to paper on a long-term deal at the AXA Training Centre.
Frimpong joins the Premier League giants following a standout spell in Germany, where he played a key role in Leverkusen’s historic 2023-24 campaign. The right-sided wing-back helped guide the team to an unbeaten domestic season, winning both the Bundesliga title and the DFB-Pokal. His energetic displays earned him a spot in the Bundesliga Team of the Season for two years in a row.
The move came swiftly once Liverpool showed interest. Frimpong made it clear that he was eager to make the switch to Anfield, quickly instructing his agents to seal the deal. His commitment to the move reflects his desire to compete at the highest level in English football and contribute to Liverpool’s ambitions.
Frimpong arrives with an impressive record. In four and a half seasons at Leverkusen, he made 190 appearances, scored 30 goals, and registered 44 assists. Known for his pace and attacking instincts, he adds a dynamic option to Liverpool’s right flank as the club enters a new era under recently appointed head coach Arne Slot.
Before his success in Germany, Frimpong developed through Manchester City’s youth academy and gained valuable first-team experience at Celtic, where he won three major trophies. His international career began in late 2023, and he has already earned 12 caps for the Netherlands, scoring once.
The move reunites Frimpong with several Dutch teammates who have praised Slot’s coaching style. While on national duty, he heard glowing reviews from players who had worked with Slot at Feyenoord, building anticipation for what’s to come under Liverpool’s new leadership.
Liverpool have yet to confirm Frimpong’s squad number, which will be announced later this summer. For now, fans can look forward to watching a proven performer who promises energy, pace, and commitment as he begins his journey in the Premier League.
