The Nigeria Police Force has successfully rescued twelve trafficked children and apprehended a couple suspected of running an illegal orphanage in Abia State.
Acting on credible intelligence, police operatives conducted a raid on a residential property on Ikot Ekpene Road, Aba, where Blessing Emebo, 49, and Sunday Emebo, 42, were allegedly managing an unregistered home for motherless infants.
The rescued children, ranging in age from six months to fourteen years, were believed to have been taken from villages in Arochukwu.
Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, announced on Monday, 2nd May, that the minors have been transferred to the state’s Ministry of Women Affairs for appropriate care and rehabilitation. The suspects are currently under interrogation and will face prosecution once investigations are concluded.
In a separate operation, police also intercepted a significant cache of illegal firearms in Kogi State. Officers pursued a suspicious Sharon bus that evaded a checkpoint, recovering five AK-47 rifles, magazines, and over 340 rounds of ammunition. Authorities suspect these weapons may be connected to a recent armed robbery in Kabba.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun praised the operations, reaffirming the Force’s dedication to dismantling criminal networks, including human trafficking and illegal arms syndicates.
