The Skyline School Sports Ltd, in partnership with the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Secondary Education Board, Abuja, on Sunday, officially launched the maiden edition of the FCT Parents Teachers Association (PTA) Games 2025, attracting enthusiastic participation from schools, parents, and members of the public.

The colorful event highlighted the unifying power of sports within and beyond the educational space, bringing together twelve public secondary schools from across the FCT, as well as private schools and independent parent-athletes who actively participated in the festivities.

He said: “Our scope is broad we promote sports at the primary, secondary, and post-secondary levels. This program goes beyond competition; it is about inclusion, fitness, and national unity. By next year, we plan to elevate this into a national PTA sports event, involving teachers and parents from across the country.”

Ajagbe also called on government and private stakeholders to invest more in sports infrastructure and programs, both within and outside school settings.

Participating Schools Included: JSS Durumi 1; JSS Jabi II; JSS Tudu-Wada; JSS Garki; GSS Karu; ADSS Asokoro; GSS Gwarimpa; MSS Maitama; GSS Apo Resettlement; GSS Gwarinpa Estate; Wesley Schools and Oasis International School, Karu.

The event featured ten (10) track and field events, each contested in both male and female categories. Activities included 100m, 200m, 400m, and 800m races; the 4x400m and 4x800m relays; high jump; a 200m walk; and a thrilling Tug of War contest.

Participants competed for medals, trophies, and school pride as enthusiastic spectators cheered from the stands.

In the High Jump category: Mr. Yusuf (ADSS Asokoro) – 1.92m; Mr. Abdullahi Abdulbaaki (GSS Gwarinpa) – 1.90m; Yusuf Moshood (JSS Garki) – 1.80m

The showpiece Tug of War (Team of 8) included teams from GSS Garki, GSS Gwarinpa, JSS Jabi, and GSS Tudu-Wada. In a dramatic finale, GSS Gwarinpa Estate emerged overall champions, clinching the coveted team trophy.

In her remarks, the Director of Special Duties, FCT Education Secretariat, Hajiya Ramatu Abubakar, commended the organizers for a well-coordinated and impactful program.

He said: “I honestly didn’t expect such an outstanding performance from both parents and students,” she said. “The spirit of sportsmanship and unity was truly heartwarming. I hope future editions will reach all six area councils.”

Also present, Mrs. Bob Manuel Onyeka, a parent who participated in the 200m walk, expressed joy at staying fit and being part of a unifying community activity.

Meanwhile, Mr. Lanre Oladunjoye, National PRO of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), spoke on behalf of the National President, Samira Jibir, noting that sports should be a core component of school life.

He said: “This program is not just about the PTA. It’s about creating a platform where parents, teachers, and students can collaborate outside the classroom. We must encourage presence and participation. Even just showing up is valuable.”

He stressed that while the economic situation is difficult, sports offer a powerful avenue for unity and wellness, especially when parents and educators lead by example.

The grand finale was made even more memorable by a performance from the Nigeria Police Band, FCT Command, who entertained the crowd and provided top-tier security throughout the event.

The FCT PTA Games 2025 has now set a high benchmark for future editions, reinforcing the belief that sports can be a strong pillar for unity, health, and educational development.
