The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has increased the matching grant allocation for quality assurance from two percent to five percent to support states in monitoring and evaluating basic education across Nigeria.
 UBEC Executive Secretary, Dr. Aisha Garba, announced this development during a 3-day refresher training and strategic meeting in Abuja.
The training brought together Zonal Directors, Quality Assurance Officers, and Directors of Quality Assurance from the 36 states and the FCT to discuss the new quality assurance reporting template and related tools.
Garba emphasised that the increased funding demonstrates the Commission’s commitment to improving learning outcomes through data-driven decision-making and stronger accountability systems in public schools.
“This increase is not just about financial support, but a strategic investment in system reform and educational standards,” Garba said. She noted that quality assurance is a central pillar of the UBEC 2025-2028 strategic blueprint and called on stakeholders to align with the evolving standards and monitoring tools.
The Deputy Executive Secretary (Technical) of UBEC, Rasaq Olajuwon Akinyemi, highlighted the critical role of quality assurance in strengthening the education system and commended participants for their commitment.
The Director of Quality Assurance, Madam Ada Ogwuche, emphasized that the training is essential in today’s dynamic educational landscape and urged participants to fully engage and collaborate.
The training aims to equip participants with modern tools and strategies to evaluate and improve education standards. By investing in quality assurance, UBEC is working to strengthen the foundation of Nigeria’s educational system and drive national development.
