The Movement for United PDP (MUPDP) has debunked growing rumours of a leadership tussle between Senator Sandy Onor and Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, describing the claims as “false, divisive, and harmful to party unity.”
In a strongly worded statement issued on Wednesday, the group reaffirmed that both senators remain committed allies in the collective effort to rebuild the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State and beyond.
“There is no rift. No rivalry. No power struggle,” the group declared. “Senators Onor and Jarigbe are working closely to strengthen the party’s structures across the state.”
Signed by the National Coordinator, Comrade Ushie Paul, and National Secretary, Comrade Oka Ikpi, the rejoinder described the rumours as a deliberate attempt to destabilize the party at a time when it is focused on reconciliation and repositioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“These distractions are ill-timed and only serve the interests of political opponents who benefit from discord within our ranks,” the statement said.
The MUPDP called on self-styled support groups and splinter factions within the party to desist from spreading misinformation that could fracture party unity. It urged members to be wary of elements “thriving on manufactured crisis and internal disunity.”
The group further emphasized that Senator Jarigbe remains focused on his senatorial duties and on party-building efforts, maintaining mutual respect and collaboration with Senator Onor in pursuit of a shared vision for the PDP in Cross River State.
In its closing remarks, the MUPDP appealed for calm and solidarity among party faithful, describing the PDP’s path forward as one that requires “cooperation, maturity, and a shared resolve to offer Nigerians a viable political alternative.”
“The future of the party lies in unity, not power struggles. In progress, not propaganda,” the statement concluded.
