Nigeria Receives N232m Mapping Software, Commends Donor Firm

The Federal Government of Nigeria has received five units of mapping software, ESRI Arc GIS Pro Advance with 10 extensions, worth N232 million, from Sambus Geospatial Nigeria Limited.

This was disclosed in a statement sent to AljazirahNigeria on Wednesday by OSGoF’s Head, Press and Public Relations, Mr Abu Michael.

Receiving the software at the Survey House in Abuja on behalf of the Office of the Surveyor General of the Federation, OSGoF, from the representative of the company, Mr Taofeek Adebayo, the Surveyor General of the Federation, SGoF, Surv. Abuduganiyu Adeyemi Adebomehin, extolled the company for its commitment to promoting generation, quality, and accuracy of geographic data for Nigeria.

Surv. Adebomehin said that the Nigerian government would remain grateful to such gestures, adding that the 5 units of the software worth N232 million.

He noted that the software would boost the capacity of OSGoF in providing a more accurate and real-time geospatial data for the Nigerian Government and other users for effective planning and implementation of projects.

According to him, the Office would be able to meet urgent demands of the government in generating data and proving maps for various challenges such as disaster management response, navigational maps for obstacles for safe flights especially during takeoff and landing of aircrafts.

Surv. Adebomehin said more interactive maps would be made available to MDAs and other authorities of the government for infrastructure development, defence and security operations as well as decision-making, planning and implementation of projects in general.

The software is licensed for evaluation of data review, defence analysis, spatial analysis, image and network analysis including business and interoperability.

Part of the collaborative arrangement includes training of staff of OSGoF in order to enhance their capacities in the usage of software, modern surveying tools and technologies aviation airports and aviation charts, bathymetry and military gridded maps among others.ESRI
