Billionaire Elon Musk has announced the formation of a new political party in the United States, dubbed the “America Party”.
According to Musk, the party’s primary goal is to challenge the country’s existing two-party system, which he believes has led to widespread corruption and waste.
“America is being bankrupted by bipartisan waste and corruption. This is not democracy — it’s a one-party system in disguise,” Musk stated. “Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.”
The decision to launch the America Party comes after Musk conducted a poll on his social media platform X, asking users if they wanted “independence from the two-party (some would say uniparty) system”. Over 1.2 million people responded, with approximately two-thirds supporting the idea of a new political alternative.
Musk’s move marks a significant shift in his political stance, particularly after being a prominent donor to US President Donald Trump’s campaign. The billionaire had strongly opposed Trump’s recent tax-cut and spending bill, citing concerns over increased US debt.
The impact of the America Party on future US elections remains uncertain, but Musk’s initiative has certainly sparked conversation about the country’s political landscape. As he puts it, the America Party aims to give Americans their freedom back by challenging the status quo .
