Nigeria’s Super Falcons kicked off their 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a convincing 3-0 win over Tunisia in Casablanca.
The team’s star striker, Asisat Oshoala, opened the scoring in the 4th minute with a precise header from a pinpoint cross by Omorinsola Babajide.
The Super Falcons dominated possession and territory throughout the match, exploiting Tunisia’s defensive gaps with pace and width. Babajide doubled the lead just before halftime with a low shot into the bottom corner, which was confirmed after a brief VAR review.
Tunisia put up a spirited effort in the second half but couldn’t breach the Nigerian defense. Ihezuo sealed the win in the 84th minute with a calm finish from close range following strong build-up play by Okoronkwo.
The win puts Nigeria at the top of Group B on goal difference, ahead of Algeria, who beat Botswana 1-0. The Super Falcons’ pace, power, and experience proved too much for the youthful Tunisian side, which was hoping to improve on their 2022 quarter-final finish.
With this victory, Nigeria is looking strong in their quest for a record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title. The team’s next challenge will be closely watched, but for now, all eyes are on other Group B contenders, including South Africa’s Banyana Banyana, who face Ghana’s Black Queens, and Tanzania, who take on Mali.
