Linda Yaccarino has stepped down as CEO of X, Elon Musk’s social media platform, after two years.
Her departure comes as the company faces challenges, including controversy over antisemitic content produced by its AI chatbot, Grok, and a recent takeover by Musk’s AI venture.
She announced her resignation in a post on X, expressing appreciation for the opportunity to lead the company.
Elon Musk responded briefly, acknowledging her contributions.
Yaccarino, formerly NBCUniversal’s head of advertising, was expected to mend relations with advertisers who had distanced themselves from the platform over content concerns.
However, she was seen as having limited power, with Musk remaining heavily involved in the company’s operations.
During her tenure, X sued a major advertising group over claims of an ad boycott, which eventually led to the group shutting down.
The platform also shifted further to the political right, diverging from its previous image under Twitter.
Despite some signs of recovery in ad revenue, the platform has struggled to regain advertiser trust.
Industry observers suggest that Yaccarino’s limited control and Musk’s dominating presence made her role especially difficult and likely contributed to her exit.
