Russian Drone Strikes Kill Two, Injure 13 in New Attack on Kyiv

Kyiv has once again come under a fierce Russian drone attack, with local authorities confirming at least two fatalities and 13 injuries.

Fires have erupted across multiple districts of the Ukrainian capital following the overnight strikes.

The central Shevchenkivskyi district suffered significant damage after drone debris hit the roof of a residential building.

Meanwhile, social media videos—yet to be verified—captured dramatic scenes of explosions lighting up the night sky as Ukrainian air defense systems responded.

The Ukrainian military has also warned of a potential ballistic missile threat.

This follows what Ukraine described earlier this week as the largest aerial assault since the war began, with 728 drones and 13 cruise or ballistic missiles launched in successive waves across the country.

By early Thursday morning, Kyiv’s military administration reported drone strikes in six districts.

Fires engulfed residential buildings, warehouses, vehicles, and office spaces. Officials confirmed that two people lost their lives during the attack, which was described as a tragic result of Russian aggression.

In the Podilsky district, a primary healthcare facility was nearly obliterated by the drone strikes, further highlighting the scale of destruction.

Authorities urged residents to remain in shelters and keep windows closed due to heavy smoke lingering over the city.

There are also reports of Russian drone threats in other regions of Ukraine, though casualties outside Kyiv have not yet been confirmed.
In another deadly incident, Ukraine’s emergency services reported that three civilians were killed in a Russian airstrike in Kostiantynivka, a town near the front line in the east.

Meanwhile, the United States has resumed some weapons shipments to Ukraine, days after pausing deliveries of critical air defense systems.

President Donald Trump, who has frequently voiced frustration with Russian President Vladimir Putin, recently criticized the Kremlin’s double-faced diplomacy.
Despite regular communications between Trump and Putin, there has been no visible progress toward a ceasefire in Ukraine—something Trump once claimed he could achieve in 24 hours.

Though he has repeatedly threatened sanctions on Moscow since taking office in January, none have yet materialized.
On Thursday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is scheduled to meet Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a summit in Malaysia, raising hopes for renewed diplomatic engagement.
The war continues more than three years after Putin launched a full-scale invasion of Ukrain in February 2022.
