An Air India flight arriving from Hong Kong caught fire shortly after landing at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport.
The incident took place as passengers were disembarking.
The fire began in the aircraft’s auxiliary power unit (APU), but the safety system automatically shut it down.
All passengers and crew members were safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported.
According to the airline, the aircraft sustained minor damage and has been grounded for detailed inspection.
Authorities have been informed and an investigation is underway.
This was one of three separate incidents involving Air India flights on the same day.
Earlier, a flight from Delhi to Kolkata had to abort take-off due to a technical issue. Flight AI 2403, carrying 160 passengers, stopped during its take-off roll after the cockpit crew noticed an abnormality.
Following standard procedures, the aircraft was brought to a halt, and all passengers were safely taken off the plane.
After necessary safety checks, the flight resumed later in the evening.
In another event, a Kochi-Mumbai Air India flight veered off the runway during landing at Mumbai airport. Heavy rains had hit the city, which may have affected landing conditions.
The Airbus A320 aircraft, operating as flight AI 2744, suffered slight damage to one of its engines. All passengers onboard were safely evacuated as per established procedures.
Despite the string of incidents, no casualties or injuries were reported in any of the three cases. All affected aircraft have been grounded for checks and further review.
