The Nigerian government has given Ethiopia 100,000 cashew seeds and 2,000 cashew seedlings to support farming efforts and boost cooperation in agriculture between the two African countries.
The donation was officially handed over in Addis Ababa and was received by Ethiopia’s Minister of State for Agriculture, Dr. Efa Boru.
According to Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the Nigerian President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice-President), the seeds and seedlings can cover around 600 hectares of land.
This act is part of a growing collaboration between Nigeria and Ethiopia aimed at advancing agriculture across Africa.
It also follows a previous donation in June 2025, when Ethiopia sent Nigeria 2,000 Haas avocado seedlings and 2,000 coffee seedlings.
These exchanges are helping to build a stronger agricultural link between both nations.
The current support effort aligns with Nigeria’s drive to improve farming practices and food production under its Agricultural Transformation Agenda.
The donation also comes during the visit of Vice President Kashim Shettima to Addis Ababa, where he is attending the second United Nations Food Systems Summit.
The event runs from July 27 to 29 and gathers world leaders to review progress made since the first summit in 2021.
The focus is on creating stronger, fairer, and more reliable food systems around the world.
This exchange of planting materials shows a growing interest among African countries to work together, share resources, and improve local farming practices.
It points to a future where regional partnerships may help tackle food shortages and support farmers across borders.
