On the evening of July 28, 2025, chaos erupted at 345 Park Avenue, a Midtown Manhattan tower housing major companies like Blackstone and the NFL.
Around 6:28 p.m., surveillance video captured a man stepping out of a double‑parked BMW carrying a military‑style rifle. He then entered the building lobby and opened fire.
A uniformed off-duty NYPD officer and two civilians were shot dead in the lobby. A security guard was also killed near the elevator banks.
Amid the panic, one man sustained serious injuries while others fled.
The shooter took an elevator to the 33rd floor, walked through offices, fatally shot a fourth person, then turned the gun on himself.
Police identified the attacker as 27-year-old Shane Devon Tamura from Las Vegas, who had driven across multiple states before arriving in New York.
Officials said he came to the city with that single weapon, a bullet‑proof vest, and ammunition. They found his rifle case, extra firearms, medication, and magazines in his vehicle, but no explosives.
Tamura had a documented history of mental health concerns. Motive remains unknown.
One of the victims was officer Didarul Islam, a 36-year-old NYPD veteran from Bangladesh who left behind a wife and two young boys, and she is expecting a third child.
Others killed include two men and a woman; one survivor is in critical condition.
The building went into lockdown while NYPD and FBI agents secured the scene.
Authorities confirmed the shooter acted alone and no further threat remained. City leaders mourned the loss and thanked first responders.
Investigators continue to piece together Tamura’s travel, mental health files, and any possible connection to the location.
