Rio Ferdinand’s 18-year-old son, Lorenz, has just signed his first professional contract with Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion. This is a huge milestone for the young goalkeeper, who recently completed a work experience loan at seventh-tier club Havant and Waterlooville.
Lorenz impressed during his time at Havant and Waterlooville, keeping two clean sheets in six unbeaten appearances. Brighton academy manager Ian Buckman praised the young recruits, saying, “We’re pleased to see this cohort of players sign their first professional contracts here, with a number of them at the club from a very young age” ¹ ².
Rio Ferdinand, Lorenz’s father, expressed his pride on Instagram, stating, “Our eldest is on his own journey in football. Another nice moment signing with @neweraglobalsports, well earned through hard work and dedication.” He also emphasized the importance of professional support, adding, “It’s a long road full of ups and downs, so the right and professional support is required – so step forward @neweraglobalsports. Love you Lorenz” ¹ ³.
Lorenz’s work experience loan at Havant and Waterlooville was a crucial step in his development, allowing him to gain valuable experience in senior football. This move to Brighton & Hove Albion is a fantastic opportunity for him to continue growing as a goalkeeper.
