Organised labour in Taraba State, under the umbrella of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), has declared an indefinite strike set to begin on Monday, August 11, 2025.
The decision was made public on Friday in a joint statement signed by NLC Chairman, Peter Jediel, and TUC Chairman, Comrade Abasu Sule, following a resolution reached at a meeting of the Joint State Administrative Council on August 6.
According to the statement, the strike is in response to alleged irregularities by the state’s Biometric Data Capture Committee, which labour leaders claim have adversely affected workers.
They accused the committee of engaging in illegal practices and faulted the state government for failing to respond to an earlier ultimatum.
“All workers, civil society organisations, and the general public are hereby put on notice to prepare adequately and stock their homes with necessary provisions,” the statement warned.
Labour directed all affiliate unions, branches, and units within Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to immediately establish strike implementation committees to ensure compliance and coordination across the state.
Mobilisation for the industrial action has already commenced, with further directives expected in the coming days.
The unions called on workers and stakeholders to remain united and alert, describing the situation as a direct threat to their rights and welfare.
