The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has cautioned some of its top members involved in anti-party activities, particularly for endorsing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of 2027, to retrace their steps or face stiff sanctions as provided in the Party’s Constitution.
The PDP said the warning became necessary following a review of the anti-party activities of certain top members of the Party who behave as if they are above the Party and have gone ahead to endorse President Tinubu for re-election in 2027.
Accordingly, the national leadership of the opposition Party said it is determined to halt the drift, thus vowed to expel Mr. Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Samuel Ortom, former governor of Benue State, Dr. Babangida Aliyu, former governor of Niger State among others from the party for clear anti-party activities.
The chieftains of the party are known for openly endorsing Present Tinubu of the APC for the 2027 Presidential election while still being members of the PDP.
National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Hon Debo Ologunagba, who stated the position of the Party today, noted that of serious concern is the persistent public media outbursts against the PDP by some prominent members of the party whose actions and utterances including their public declaration of support and willingness to work for the victory of the APC in the 2027 Presidential election constitute serious threat to the stability and sustenance of the Party.
The Spokesperson of the PDP said the actions of the affected members are in clear violation of the provision of the Party’s Constitution (as amended in 2017), stressing that specifically, Section 10 (6) of the PDP Constitution provides that; “NO MEMBER of the Party SHALL align with other Parties or groups to undermine the Party or any of its elected government”.
He further said; “Such anti-party activities have continued to impact negatively on the PDP leading to division, disaffection and heavy haemorrhaging of members with the capacity to diminish our Party’s electoral fortune if not immediately checked.
“In the light of the foregoing and the instancy of protecting and preserving the existence of our Party and its electoral fortune, the NWC, pursuant to the provisions of Section 59 (1) of the PDP Constitution hereby issues a strong reprimand against such anti-party activities and cautions those involved to retrace their steps or face stiffer sanctions as provided in the PDP Constitution,” the PDP warned.
The PDP NWC charged members of the Party to remain loyal, focused and continue to work assiduously towards the successful conduct of the Party’s National Convention scheduled to hold on November 15 and 16, 2025 in Ibadan, the Oyo State Capital.
The FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, former Niger State governor, Babangida Aliyu, former governor of Benue State, Mr Samuel Ortom, some PDP Governors are among top chieftains of the Party constantly announcing their endorsement of President Tinubu for 2027.
The development is seen in political circle as alien and absurd to party politics in a democracy.
