A 36-year-old man long wanted on charges of murder and drug trafficking in Saskatoon was apprehended on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Montreal’s Trudeau International Airport.
Quebec’s provincial police, working alongside the Sûreté du Québec Airport Unit, the Mascouche Major Crime Investigation Division, and the Canada Border Services Agency, executed several Canada-wide warrants to make the arrest.
The man, identified as Jonathan Ouellet-Gendron, had been sought since May 2022 following the fatal shooting of 29-year-old Brandon Baxandall behind an apartment building on Melrose Avenue in Saskatoon.
Within days of the killing, police charged him with first-degree murder and cautioned the public that he could be armed.
In May 2023, Ouellet-Gendron was added to Canada’s BOLO (Be On the Lookout) list, which tracks the country’s top 25 most wanted fugitives, where he held the 10th position.
The program had offered a reward for information leading to his capture.
Authorities say Ouellet-Gendron was taken into custody without incident after arriving in Montreal.
As of Sunday, he was expected to appear in a Montreal courthouse, with extradition to Saskatchewan anticipated so he can face the charges in Saskatoon.
