Police in Dresden, Germany, are appealing for witnesses after a stabbing on a tram left a 21-year-old U.S. citizen injured early Sunday morning.
The incident took place at 12:25 a.m. on a Gorbitz-bound tram near the Neustädter Markt stop. According to police, two men were harassing female passengers when the American passenger stepped in to intervene. One of the men then stabbed him during the altercation.
The victim was treated for injuries, though police did not disclose further details about his condition.
Officers detained a 21-year-old Syrian national shortly after the attack but later released him.
Authorities are now searching for another suspect, described as wanted for grievous bodily harm and other offenses.
Police have urged anyone who was on the tram or at the station at the time of the attack to come forward with information.
The investigation remains ongoing, with security patrols increased across Dresden’s tram network.
